Some years ago, the Greater Good Science Center published an article on the compassionate instinct, and it remains to this day a highly interesting read. ‘Compassion is deeply rooted in human nature; it has a biological basis in the brain and body. Humans can communicate compassion through facial gesture and touch, and these displays of compassion can serve vital social functions, strongly suggesting an evolutionary basis of compassion. And when experienced, compassion overwhelms selfish concerns and motivates altruistic behavior.’

In our workshops and retreats we notice many people, and especially men, are in search of more self-compassion. People feel responsible for taking care of others, but realize they must take care of themselves before they’re able to take care of the people around them, including their families, teams and organization. We’ve therefore acknowledged self-compassion as one of the three most-important new human-skills needed to feel happy and healthy.
