As technology increases significantly, we must focus more than ever on sharpening new human-skills; creating connections, respond mindful to situations and being (self-) compassionate. This change triggers a transformation of the entire economy, leading to the digital age and a network society. In the wake of these changes, the skills we as humans require are rapidly changing. Technology can automate repetitive tasks, but it’s much harder for artificial intelligence to compete against humans in roles that require social finesse and emotional intelligence.

The power of time off is bridging the gap between professional challenges and the importance of developing new human skills such as mindfulness, (self-)compassion and creating connections.

Our leadership retreats are known for their transformational experience; combining simplicity, nature and healthy food with yoga practises, mind training and relaxation. Spending time in nature, away from distractions, heals your body, improves your ability to connect and restores your mind. Being in nature activates the rest and digest activities, contributing to rebalance your body. Time in nature increases your ability to pay attention and to focus. This provides a break for your overactive mind, recharging your mental batteries, refreshing you for new tasks.

As a leader you are expected to take a myriad of decisions, usually under time pressure, without the opportunity to read and digest the overload of information available. We all recognize that ‘gut feeling’ whether something is right or wrong. Our intuition is our brain combining our past experiences and knowledge with external cues. Intuition tends to get triggered when you’re under severe time pressure, in a situation of acute danger or being faced by information overload. But you don’t have to wait until you face one of these situations to tap into your ‘gut feeling’. You can train your brain.

Reflection helps identify the first signs of exhaustion or detachment in yourself and in your communities. And thus, can help prevent a burn-out. Take time off by yourself and with your communities (your management teams, your employees and your clients) at least once a year.
